Students interested in the interface of Computer Science and Linguistics took part in a public lecture by Dr. Barbara Di Eugenio on April 28. Dr. Di Eugenio, Professor of Computer Science and Director of the Natural Language Processing Laboratory at UIC, presented an overview of the research in the Natural Language Processing Lab that she co-directs, exploring AI solutions to real-world problems ranging from medical communication to elderly care. Advancements in linguistics, particularly multimodal, integrative approaches to meaning-in-context can provide important insights on how to model human interaction for machine learning.
