Dr. Jill Hallett Presents Research at the International Congress of Linguists
Dr. Jill Hallett (Lecturer of Linguistics) presented "Migration and Meaning-Making in a Plurilingual Urban Landscape" within the Urban Linguistic Diversity focus stream at the International Congress of Linguists in Poznań, Poland. The research uses photo-elicitation methods to center the experiences of refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers as they navigate the plurilingual landscape of one Chicago neighborhood. Results present a range of interpreted meanings of the same signage based on participants' linguistic, cultural, and lived experiences.
