Class Spotlights – LING 220 Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology
LING220 Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology was created by Dr. Jennifer Cabrelli, developed and taught by Professor Carrie Pichan. The course introduces students to concepts and methodologies for the phonetic and phonological analysis of natural language. It emphasizes the description and analysis of phonological patterns using feature specification and analysis of acoustic properties of speech. One of students' favorite aspects of Professor Pichan's LING 220 is learning the phonetic analysis software Praat and completing a project project from designing the study, collecting and analyzing primary data, to presenting the results in class and writing up the report.
